Homeschooling Benefit Number #1:
If it doesn't work for you that day you can wait another day.
I had promised Demand that I would start teaching her to read today completely forgetting that we had a packed week.
Today: 10am lab @ doctors
11am tour of the Capitol & then lunch
after nap teach Demand
I dreaded even going to bed last night because I knew what chaos would greet me today. In retrospect, I had no idea. Happy was up at least five times to nurse. He had been doing so well for a week but was teething again and he nurses like crazy when he's teething. Demand didn't get to sleep until after 10:30pm, she wet the bed around 5am, and was up around 8am.
My big plans had been to get up around 6am and get ready before anyone woke up but after the sleepless night I slept in until 7:30am before finally dragging myself to the shower. From then on it was insane. I hadn't gathered clothes for anyone, I had lunches to finish packing, quarters to gather for parking (I had to do a money transfer with Demands piggy bank)and your usual 'trying to get out the door' nonsense like having a three year old that moves like molasses.
After much moodiness on my part and judging on Mr. Sloths, we promptly left at 9:30am (on time). Of course it's snowy and windy today. It added to the fun twenty minute drive across town for the a five minute appointment. Next it was to the Capitol! I parked where I thought was close parking but 'little did I know' it 'twas not.
I started pushing Demand in the stroller while carrying Happy through head on blizzard conditions after coughing up $3 in quarters for the meter. It was the equivalent of four block walk and the sidewalks weren't shoveled so it was even harder. Finally we made it, met with our Catholic Home School Group and had a lovely tour. Lunch was in another building, involving another walk outdoors...in the opposite direction of our car. Lunch was quick since the clock was ticking on our meter.
The walk back to the car was miserable. Miserable!! Snowing, extremely windy, uphill for about a 1/4 mile. Demand was walking and I cannot blame her for crying. A couple of times I heard her crying out to the wind to "Stop!". When we finally got to the car, after a ten minute walk and Demand falling on the ice, I still had to drag the stroller through three feet of snow for about ten feet. Demand was beside herself, actually we all were.
Home we went. I'm sure you've guessed but now that I was in no condition to start teaching Demand how to read. Thankfully she's forgotten about it for now, maybe we'll try and squeeze it in tomorrow morning.
The rest of the week is as follows.
Tonight: Shop/clean/prep for 'Mom's Night Out' party tomorrow
Tuesday: Demand has a class at 12:45pm other than that its getting ready for the party.
Wednesday: CCD at night
Thursday: I lead small group Bible Study from 9:30-11:45; Drag kids to the doctors again at 4pm.
Friday: Book Club meeting @ 8pm, thankfully not at my house!
Of course in all my business I have to find time to actually do my Bible Study lesson, plan for CCD and start reading the book club book for next month since it's 450 pages.
(Sigh) Is dinner ready yet?
