Light at the end of the tunnel

I'm going to be honest. Friday was rough. Really rough. For some reason Happy was just refusing to nap all week. The only way I could get him to sleep was by nursing (which I don't like doing) but even that wasn't a sure fix. Finally around 2pm on Friday I had had it. Happy had been screaming for over an hour, I was exhausted, and I found Demand downstairs (not in her bed). When I told her to go back to bed she started cry/whining and that's when I joined her. I just started bawling. This scared her, never having seen me cry, so she cried more then hugged me and kept crying. She went upstairs crying a most confused cry. I decided to join her in her room hoping maybe the boy would fall asleep and Demand and I could get a nap in too.

Twenty minutes later nothing had changed. I insisted Mr. Sloth bring us the car; we were going to the library. The kids had a blast! Our library is great. It has a huge play area with a a little house for kids to read in and plenty of excitement for the little guy. It even turned out to be "Art Attack Friday". The library had out tons of craft items to make cotton ball snowmen. Demand had a blast! Happy sat in his stroller patiently taking everything in while we picked out the books we wanted. I even found Demand's precious "Pinkalicious" on the shelf (it's a hard book to get). Finally I let the boy go and he was beyond happy to climb and explore. After more than an hour and a little bit of a sanity boost it was time to go home. The second we got in the car Happy started in with his screaming. It just continued until finally I nursed him to sleep and he stayed asleep for about an hour. I then whipped up a $5 Dinner which would have been great had I not accidentally had too many spicy elements. For some reason I had accidentally bought a can of black beans with jalapenos.

At long last it was time for me to head out for the night for my monthly book club. A much needed night out. I had a great time and even stayed out until midnight. It was so relaxing that I didn't mind that Happy woke up the second I climbed into bed or that morning sickness kicked in just as I laid down with him. I had gotten a much needed break and that was all that mattered.

Today was an ideal Saturday. It was a slow morning (especially since we were out of caffeinated coffee). Around the time of Happy's morning nap I thought we should all head out so he could sleep in the car. We went for drive-thru coffee and headed to a mall. It was the perfect amount of sleep for him. We had fun at Barnes and Noble, Creative Kids Stuff and Pottery Barn Kids before picking up lunch and heading home. Happy fell asleep in the car but we woke him up to give him lunch. He played for a bit after but was ready for bed, it was time for Demands nap as well. Unfortunately right as she was heading to her room she tripped and cracked her face on the door frame of her bedroom. It was bad. She had a little cut on the corner of her eyelid a cut all the way down her face to the edge of her lip that also bled a bit. She took it like a trooper though. Mr. Sloth laid down with her and some ice while I bravely put Happy down to nap. Much to my surprise he bought it with little fussing! In fact I left the room and he stared crying but then I heard nothing and thinking he fell asleep I came back to hear him playing. He eventually fell asleep, as did I. I'd been fighting a headache and morning sickness all day so my nap was much needed. After an hour an half Happy woke up but I wasn't done napping so I brought him in bed with me and we slept until 4:30pm! It was fantastic.

We picked up a rotisserie chicken for dinner and had left over rice and veggies on the side. I was proud of us for not ordering pizza but choosing something much cheaper and healthier. Plus since I've been craving Asian food (which Mr. Sloth is not helping with) the side of rice was quite tasty.

Happy went down for bed just perfectly. I even though he'd fallen asleep on my shoulder for a few minutes but he was just cuddling. He didn't fuss when he got in his crib, but just cooed and smiled at his fish tank and glow worm. Finally the smiles seemed bountiful enough that I could leave, and I did with now tears. Although it's funny, it's harder to leave when they are so easy and cute and that's the time they don't need you to stay.
