Adventure in HISTORY!!

Saturday we met up with Mr. Sloth's brothers family for an exciting adventure in history. Using free library pass (You know I love them!) We went to a recreated 19th Century town complete with residents who tell us all about their home, business or way of life.

Now the last time Mr. Sloth and I went to this place it was 1,000 degrees outside and almost all the exhibits were closed and mosquitoes were EVERYWHERE. Miserable time. Saturday as we started to pack for the trip it turned cold so I traded in my tee-shirt and capri pants for a sweatshirt and jeans. The second we arrived it turned into the most beautiful weather. We started with a horse drawn carriage that drove us about half a mile down the road into the town. (This feature was not available last time we were there....remember 1,000 degrees.) Demand was not so sure when I deposited her onto the carriage. In fact Demand was frightend of most things. I told her that her feelings were normal, the past *IS* scary.

My favorite stops were the one room home of a fur trader, (Demand liked petting the fur.), a barn where we watched them make rope. We could have helped but all of us were chicken. The big hit was the schoolhouse. They had tons of toys, chalk boards, and quills and ink to write with. Outside there was a bell you could ring (Demand LOVED that), and there were hoops with sticks (whatever that game was) I found that highly entertaining. We couldn't see everything, but it's just as well. We were all exhausted and Demand had only had a ten minute nap, which showed half way through dinner at Mr. Sloth's parents house.

While Mr. Sloth and Demand napped on Sunday I had some quiet time. I finished a crocheted blanket that I had been working on just shy of a decade. Then I decided to do some sketches for the loft. Mr. Sloth and I decided to do some rearranging and make some additions to the loft to give Demand a proper playroom. It's going to be awesome. We're only planning on spending $100, but of course the ideas just keep coming. Demand is getting a table and chair set from Ikea for her birthday so that will go in there. We're also going to do an activity wall with a magnetic chalkboard (painted on the wall) and a dress up corner. Plus we're going to get one of those rugs that looks like a road system so Demand can drive her many wheeled vehicles on there. Most of the work is in the rearranging. I spent a good deal of Monday rearranged books in the house to free up the cubbby shelf for Demands exclusive use. We're thinking of painting the room or making a mural but nothing is set yet. We're just so excited that Demand plays upstairs by herself now. It's wonderful. I can be downstairs cooking and she'll just play happily for 45 minutes. All she asks for is "make it" (music) and some snacks.

Life has changed around here. Again, click on the picture to see pictures from our historical adventure.
